Storm Door
Storm doors take the weather so the entry door doesn't have to. Most failures we see come from a sloppy rough-opening prep or a closer that was never adjusted. Both are fixable.
Common questions
If you only watch one thing,
read these first.
- Why does my storm door slam shut?
- The closer is overpressurized. Find the screw on the end of the closer cylinder and back it off a quarter turn at a time until the door catches softly without bouncing.
- Can I install a storm door on any entry door?
- Almost always, yes. The exception is a south- or west-facing dark entry door in direct sun. Trapped heat between the storm and the entry can cook the paint and stress the slab. We'll flag it on the visit.
- Should the storm door open the same direction as the entry door?
- Usually opposite, so they don't fight each other when both are open. We check your traffic pattern before hanging it.
